My Journey with Ruth

Hey My People,

I just want to share a few things with you.  I have been on this spiritual journey and working to strengthen my relationship with GOD.  In doing that I have been reading the Bible, applying these teachings to my life, more prayer and taking time to listen.  This morning I started a Four day Devotional on the book of Ruth and I wanted to share a few of my thoughts with you.

This entire Chapter 1 is significant for me in some many ways and I am able to apply these principles in my own life. In this first chapter is shows Naomi and her husband leaving a place that was not producing for another place. Whether this was a good move we will never know. However in the process it seems as though they went about their lives and when Naomi's husband died she continued.

As Naomi's children became men and took wives from this surrogate land they still existed until the sons also perished. It does not say how the sons died. However, I can only imagine there were rough conditions and a rough life in these lands. There are so many of us living rougher than we have to. Eventually Naomi was looking to return to her home and encouraged her daughters-in-law to return to their respective homes and have the chance to live their lives and possibly remarry. Orpah returned and Ruth stayed. Ruth said much but I wept when I read, "....urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you." I don't know about you but for me, that's Love!

For me it also shows the love that exists between Ruth and Naomi that extends beyond a family connection. It shows a soul tie that Ruth is willing to sacrifice the remainder of her life and succumb back to old ways or familiarity to continue in the walk she has emulated for all these years. Naomi's walk with God had to be so strong that she won not only the loyalty and respect of Ruth but also a soul for God. How interesting this is. I'm sure that Ruth had no idea of what to do or what she would be faced with following Naomi yet she trusted that it had to be better than returning to the past. As Naomi and Ruth returned back home it is now Naomi that lacks strength and believes that she is being punished because of all she lost. I don't think she realizes what she still has at this point.

The final point I take from this is that I feel like in life we can get so caught up in what we lost that we don't see what and who is still there for us. That has our back and will never let us go. Not only does God have our back but sometimes he sends us people that helps us along as well. Sometimes, it may be someone like Orpah that go as far as they can go in our walk and sometimes it may be someone like Ruth that will go the distance.

These are strictly my thoughts, opinions and take aways from this chapter.
